Today September 11th 2012 is a day that will be commemorated by millions of people all over the world and with good reason. September 11th refers to a great atrocity that took place 11 years ago where several airline plane hijackers flew their planes into the world trade center buildings, which leveled both buildings to the ground, killing all told at least 3000 people. It was a landmark terrorist attack not only because of its scale of death and destruction, but because of who the victims were; Americans. As world-renowned linguist and author Noam Chomsky pointed out, “For the first time in modern history, Europe and its offshoots were subjected, on home soil, to the kind of atrocity that they routinely have carried out elsewhere.” Members from poor countries don’t typically commit mass murders on powerful nations. It usually works the other way around.
