Frida Kahlo (July 6, 1907 – July 13,1954). A communist, an indiginous surrealist, a revolutionary, a philosopher – a mother to all women, a teacher to all people. This poem is for you.
Woman
~ For Frida Kahlo
By Malkia Charlee NoCry
butterflies shake their touched wings
creating thundering windstorms of prism
of muted earthen roses blooming
of cradled, cracked and broken skeletons
serendipitous awakenings…growing in mind
and feathered stroke
If one knew you as well as father
they would know the ache of medicine
beyond your own medicinal yearning
the heart sculpted like a tree branching
red the color of blood, the color of passion
And if one new you as well as mother
they would see the uterus fragrant jewel
the want of belly bright and aglow
with revolutionaries and sorcerers birthed in canals
paint brushes tucked safely between their teeth
And if one were to know you like woman
who developed love through your eagle eye
learned to love their own sister, weak and woman
learned to love their own lover, breath and woman
seducing her with womanhood, grace and delicate
thundering storms of prism would hit every breast
make way for every heart feminine
serendipitous awakenings found in petal…
growing in minds, in women’s name
